Greytown Kindergarten

Working with you

Our programmes focus on providing experiences that will develop your child based on their interests and experiences.  Our teachers welcome the chance to talk with you about your child - and appreciate what you can share with them about your child's life outside kindergarten.

Being involved

We enjoy having families/whānau visiting our kindergarten - you are very welcome to stay during our sessions.  You may like to become involved as one of our parent helpers, or share a skill with the children.  Practical help with cleaning up, taking home washing, donating resources or joining in on working bees is much appreciated.  Please just talk with one of our teachers about how you can be involved.

Quality at kindergarten

At all our kindergartens the teaching team will provide  your child with a high quality learning experience.  Our team of Senior Teachers provides regular professional support to the teaching team as part of our quality approach .  Our kindergartens are regularly reviewed by the Education Review Office (ERO).  You can read the latest ERO report for this kindergarten here.

Greytown Kindergarten

Greytown Kindergarten has been a part of the Greytown community for more than 50 years.

The four qualified registered teachers provide a vibrant and enriching educational programme in a well-resourced early childhood environment. Teachers are dedicated and promote learning opportunities that reflect the kindergarten’s place in rural Wairarapa.

Greytown Kindergarten was recently reviewed by the Education Review Office and is one of a select number of early childhood services judged by ERO to be ‘very well placed’ to promote positive outcomes for children. The reviewers made such comments as, “High quality teaching challenges and extends children’s learning. Effective strategies evident include: the provision of an innovative, culturally responsive curriculum which gives appropriate emphasis to social skills, literacy and mathematics development.”

The kindergarten has a long established and close relationship with the people of Papawai Marae (Ngâti Moe) and with Ngâti Kahungunu iwi. In conjunction with the iwi the kindergarten is implementing Te Pae Huarewa, the Cultural Standards Project of Ngâti Kahungunu.

Greytown Kindergarten provides a secure and safe environment and also supports and promotes a culture of learning. Underpinning all of these things is a collaborative commitment to professionalism.

Our Teaching Team

The kindergarten has a teaching team of three full time teachers, one part time teacher and an administrator.  All of our teachers are fully qualified.
