South End Kindergarten

Working with you

Our programmes focus on providing experiences that will develop your child based on their interests and experiences.  Our teachers welcome the chance to talk with you about your child - and appreciate what you can share with them about your child's life outside kindergarten.

Being involved

We enjoy having families/whānau visiting our kindergarten - you are very welcome to stay during our sessions.  You may like to become involved as one of our parent helpers, or share a skill with the children.  Practical help with cleaning up, taking home washing, donating resources or joining in on working bees is much appreciated.  Please just talk with one of our teachers about how you can be involved.

Quality at kindergarten

At all our kindergartens the teaching team will provide  your child with a high quality learning experience.  Our team of Senior Teachers provides regular professional support to the teaching team as part of our quality approach .  Our kindergartens are regularly reviewed by the Education Review Office (ERO).  You can read the latest ERO report for this kindergarten here.

South End Kindergarten

South End Kindergarten is located in the grounds of a primary school which also has a Montessori unit.  We have strong links with these schools, and other schools in the community.

We embrace diverse cultures and use Te Reo Maori and Tikanga as part of everyday interactions with children.

We enjoy a supportive relationship with families/whānau in which they share an understanding of the children's learning and development and the operation of the kindergarten.

We encourage and teach children to be self-reliant and also caring towards each other.

We have a large outdoor area allowing for children to exercise their physical and spatial skills.

The kindergarten environment includes a garden where the children learn to plant, grow and care for their own vegetables, trees, fruit and flowers. The children and their families/whānau have also developed their own native tree area at the adjacent primary school.

We also offer a structured programme to improve their basic literacy and writing skills including...

  • Literacy homework pack for older children
  • School library visits once a week for older children
  • Transition to school literacy group once a week for children about to go to school
  • Having new entrant children from the adjacent school come and read to our children once a week

Our Teaching Team

We have 4 teachers who are fully qualified in early childhood education (ECE) and an administrator.
